Nike Store Confirmed for Downtown Detroit
Big news for the Motor City–Nike has confirmed the opening of a 22,000 square foot, bi-level Community-Store in the heart of Downtown Detroit. The official announcement was given by Dan Gilbert, via his twitter account on November 18th, 2015. A Nike Community-Store is significant, as it is does not represent the typical Nike factory store that most people are accustomed to seeing.
According to nike.com;
“As part of its Community Store model, Nike store employees and Nike’s retail leadership support volunteerism and allocate volunteer hours to sport- and non-sport-related efforts. Store employees, who are known as ‘athletes,’ will work with kids to drive early, positive experiences with physical activity throughout the community.”
This comes as exciting news to local businesses and residents, as it signifies further growth in the City of Detroit. It will undoubtably generate loads of foot traffic in the area, which has already seen openings of popular clothing stores such as Moosejaw and John Varvatos. As the QLine project is set to complete soon, the Nike store will be right on the path of transit.
