Detroit Joins the Realm of Social Networking with the Help of LinkedIn
A recent announcement from Californian-based internet company LinkedIn brings Detroit forward into the digital age.
LinkedIn just announced it will be opening a new office in the Detroit Metro area. The office, which will employ 30 people to start, will be the first office the company has opened in the US in over ten years. After evaluating more than ten other locations across the US, the company settled on Detroit for its recent upheaval and rejuvenation efforts which seem to be bringing businesses in by the droves.
“We chose Detroit because it’s a city with amazing talent,” Gamson said. “There is a proven spirit of greatness and innovation, and these are the types of people with whom we want to work.”
The concept of the office is to offer assistance to businesses with marketing, hiring and sales growth.
LinkedIn is a social networking site designed to highlight member’s backgrounds—both in work and education. The company was founded in 2003 and has since been sold to Microsoft for an amazing $26 billion. It is currently one of the most used business networking sites on the market.
“We’re committed to creating an economic opportunity for everyone and sometimes that means bringing the jobs to where the people are,” said Gamson. “We’re excited to be part of the Detroit economic comeback story.”
LinkedIn isn’t the only tech-driven company claiming a stake in Detroit this year. Twitter and Microsoft are currently in or planning to relocate to the Detroit midtown area sometime this year.
The location for the future LinkedIn Detroit office has yet to be announced, however, the company has already posted a job listing for the soon-to-be Motor City office. The posting can be found on the company website’s job board.
