Design Lovers—Listen Up!
Detroit has been making waves across media platforms as of late, with an influx of honorary titles and awards being bestowed upon its once-broken city. This week was no different!
After Lonely Planet recently announced that Detroit took home the number two slot on their Best Cities in the World to Visit list, Architectural Digest has since gifted the city another high-ranking position on one of their recently announced lists—Top Spots to Visit with Design in Mind in 2018.
Detroit gracing the publication giant’s list of cities is thanks in part to several of the new hotels opening throughout 2017 as well as the ones scheduled for 2018 openings. The Foundation Hotel, which opened earlier this year, was noted as one of the major draws for design lovers. The Siren Hotel at the Wurlitzer Building slated for the end of 2017, the Element Detroit Hotel at the Metropolitan Building, and the Shinola Hotel, have all been mentioned as incredible assets to the city in regards to architectural beauty.
Architectural Digest detailed several additional reasons for Detroit earning its ranking, including the updated infrastructure, chic new hotels, modern transport systems, and high-rated eateries.
Other hot destinations for design lovers to make the cut include Mexico City, Toronto, and the Azores Islands. Only other U.S. city to made the list—Monterey, California.
While an important mention, this isn’t the first nod toward Detroit’s design splendors. Back in 2015, Detroit was listed on the UNESCO City of Design roster, making it the first US city to join the rankings. The list features cities which display strong traits in one of seven categories: Gastronomy, Literature, Design, Film, Music, Media Arts, and Crafts & Folk Art. Since its addition, two other US cities have been chosen for inclusion—Austin, Texas and Tucson, Arizona.
As Detroit continues to make its way onto these incredible lists, investors and homeowners will continue to see remarkable increases in property value and appreciation rates. Detroit is definitely a hot market at the moment, with temperatures only continuing to rise as time goes on.
