Detroit Is Seeing Tech—Jobs, That Is!
Silicon Valley has nothing on…Detroit?
According to a news report published on ZipRecruiter, an online job posting board, Detroit is currently listed as one of the top 20 cities in the United States for tech jobs.
The list, which features cities across the entire nation, was republished by the popular magazine Time just last week. It boasts a variety of cities, spread across the US, including Providence, Rhode Island, Tampa, Florida, and Columbus, Ohio. Perhaps the most surprising information depicted by the list is that the tech industry is no longer confined to the west coast, but has now expanded from coast to coast.
Detroit is cited as being the 16th fastest growing market in the industry. Project Manager, Software Engineer, Quality Engineer, Systems Engineer, and Application Engineer currently hold the rankings as the top tech jobs in the Detroit metro-area. The list goes on to detail Detroit’s year on year growth is showing at an incredible 81.4%.
In addition to high growth, the city shows an early career median pay of $62,300 and a mid-career median pay of $103,000.
While Detroit is showing an impressive growth in the tech job market, it still boasts one of the lowest cost of living rates in the nation, making the combination irresistible. Those in the industry are currently flocking to Detroit to create a better revenue stream for themselves, as the cost of living in other hot markets, like San Francisco and New York City, is excessively high.
Despite Detroit beating out Tampa, Providence, Seattle, and Chicago in year on year growth, Detroit couldn’t hold a candle to the growth rate displayed by Huntsville, Alabama. The city ranked #1 on the list with an insatiable 300% growth in tech jobs.
